MUJW Equips Aspiring Journalists for Future

This is where students start becoming professionals.

For the past 46 years, the Missouri Urban Journalism Workshop has taken place every summer in Columbia. Through the workshop, aspiring journalists learn skills such as interviewing and editing in print and broadcast journalism. Including this year’s group, 1,049 students have gone through the program.

Anna Romero, the workshop’s director, said the nine-day program was created to spark interest for high school journalists.

“The Missouri School of Journalism, the Dow Jones News Fund and other media entities wanted a program that would interest diverse young people in journalism and motivate students to think about actually going to college,” Romero said.
